IFIP First International Workshop on Design Space Exploration of Cyber-Physical Systems (IDEAL)

The engineering of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) requires assessing different design and architecture alternatives during the development and maybe the run-time of the system. The design space including different alternatives of such systems is very large and typically cannot be explored or assessed manuallyFacing the multitude of design decisions to be taken into account, automating and guiding the finding of design alternatives will reduce drastically design time and cost. Such automation however faces at least two main challenges. First, design decisions are typically made based on extensive expert knowledge that cannot be simply mapped to algorithms. Secondly, the involved design spaces are often very large, and developing efficient procedures is of crucial importance.

The IDEAL workshop intends to bring together experts from industry and academia to discuss the needs, today’s possibilities and future research directions for industrial applicable support for the exploration of design alternativesof CPS. The workshop is co-located with the CPSWeek 2014 and sponsored by IFIP Working Group 10.2 "Embedded Systems".

Topics of Interest

We are interested in submissions from both industry and academia on all topics related to Design Space Exploration. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Industrial requirements:  Which constraints and objectives are relevant
  • Architecture design support Architectural models, support for variants, support for tracing
  • User InteractionHuman guided DSE, iterative DSE
  • Analysis and Synthesis SupportVerification of DSE constraints(Multi-)objective analysis support for DSE, consistency over the complete design space, change management analysis, online and offline analysis / synthesis support

Format and How to Submit

All papers must conform to the Springer guidelines, and must not exceed twelve (12) pages. All submissions must be in English. Submissions must be in PDF format. Submissions that do not comply with the foregoing instructions will be desk rejected without being reviewed.

Papers must be submitted electronically through EasyChair-site.

Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of originality, importance of contribution, soundness, evaluation, quality of presentation and appropriate comparison to related work. The program committee as a whole will make final decisions about which submissions to accept for presentation at the conference.

Accepted papers will be published at Springer.

The workshop will include a keynote presentation as well as peer-reviewed paper presentations including questions for clarification and discussion-round prepared by another presenter.

Accepted papers have a page limit of 15 pages. Again, please make sure to use the right paper style. Please submit all source files (LaTeX or Word only) of your paper including a PDF or PS file into one zip-archive and upload it using your paper ID and password to the submission system. Only zip-archive will be accepted by the system. Download the Copyright form and fax to Achim Rettberg, Fax: +49 (441) 9722-282.

Please note that one registration is required for each paper in order to appear in the proceedings. The early registration deadline is March 7th, 2014, see detailed registration information.
